Search for an instructor

do you know ...

The Irish Rider Training Association (IRTA) is largest association of independent instructors in the country.

The association was set up to provide high quality, affordable rider training and help minimise the appalling motorcycle accident rate in Ireland. As avid riders ourselves it's in everyone's interest to improve the unjustified bad press motorcycling gets in this country.

About The Irish Rider Training Association

The Irish Rider Training Association exists to encourage the provision of “accessible, affordable and high-quality” motorcycle rider training throughout the island of Ireland.

IRTA was formed in 1999 by a group of experienced motorcyclists within the Irish Motorcyclists’ Action Group (MAG Ireland) who were concerned that in most parts of the country there were no instructors and, even where there were, often those who were providing training lacked any qualifications and there was no common standard. That meant, even in the few places training could be found, riders (the “consumers”) had no way of differentiating between the “good, the bad and the indifferent”.

Following discussions with the Department of the Environment & Local Government (DoELG), a national training system and syllabus was agreed, as well as a national standard and qualification procedure for instructors. An instructor has to meet an extremely high standard to become an IRTA-registered instructor.
